Updated ICANN Glossary Terms and Acronyms Now Online

The ICANN Language Services department is proud to announce the final publication of the updated ICANN glossary terms and acronyms. This is the result of a process that lasted several months and saw our team working together with the community to revise our glossaries in the six United Nations languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish).

As mentioned in our previous blog post, this glossary update project was one of the first endeavors our recently appointed Language Experts embarked into. This project was initiated after the ICANN 47 public meeting in Durban and is the direct result of listening to the feedback and needs from members of our community.

The initiative was divided in different phases to allow community participation.

First, the Language Services team started reviewing the glossaries and acronyms guide posted on our websites in September of 2013.

During the six weeks leading up to ICANN 48 in Buenos Aires the Language Experts worked with small focus groups divided by language of community members who kindly volunteered their time to help our team.

The feedback from the community volunteers was then incorporated in the documents revised by the Language Experts and the reviewed glossary terms and acronyms were presented during a public session at ICANN 48 to receive additional feedback from the broader community.

Today, as a result of this process and the collaboration of ICANN staff and committed community members the updated glossary terms and acronyms are up on our website.

This is just one of the many accomplishments the Language Services department has reached in the past few months and I’m looking forward to showcase our future successes on this blog.
