Motivation for membership in the RSSAC Caucus:

It has been 4 years I am working cybersecurity field. I figured out around 64% cyberattacks are
taking place in DNS. I really want to work and contribute on securing DNS from DNS hijacking,
cache poisoning etc attacks. I have also joined relevant mailing lists related to DNS in IETF. I
follow the discussion on DNS KSK roll over which is going to be held on 11th October 2018. I’ve
also participated in DNSSEC workshops at various ICANN meetings. I have joined the mailing
list of IETF DNSOP and OPSEC. In IETF meeting I attended all the DNSOP sessions. I have
strong desire to work with RSSAC and SSAC. At the same time, I am very much interested to
contribute to RSSAC caucus.

Indication of availability:

I can work on RSSAC caucus related work for 10 hours per month. I’m also willing to attend
physical and online meetings of RSSAC and RSSAC Caucus.

I am in the DNSOP mailing list of IETF. Currently I don’t have a role in RSSAC.

Relevant Qualifications:
I am a network engineer having in-depth technical knowledge and operational experience of the DNS. I have worked with ISPs, NRENs, data centers, transit providers and universities to help build and operate network infrastructure including the DNS. I am heavily involved in local and regional NOGs in South Asia. I am a volunteer instructor with the NSRC to conduct workshopsrelated to network design and operations including DNS and DNSSEC in the developing region. I am also an APNIC Community Trainer teaching network operational technologies in APAC region.

Motivation for membership in the RSSAC Caucus:
I am highly motivated to have positive contributions to the global Internet. I have strong interest in the protocol design and operations of DNS, and the evolution of it in coming days. I would like to engage in the discussions related to operations, security, stability, resiliency and scalability of the global DNS system. RSSAC Caucus would be a great place to participate in effective discussions on the root DNS operations.

Indication of availability:
I can devote up to 8 hours per month for RSSAC Caucus activities. I am mostly available to attend online calls and would join Caucus meetings either remotely or in-person.

I do not have any formal role in the RSSAC. I follow DNS-OARC and IETF DNSOP mailing-lists. I am interested to contribute to the security of the Root DNS operations.

Motivation: I am motivated by what is good for the Internet. I fully support the root server operators' collective and ongoing quest towards greater stability and transparency in their operations and infrastructure, and I stand ready to contribute to that effort.

Indication of Availability: Dyn is supportive of me spending my time on RSSAC work, and there is no anticipated problem with a steady-state load of 5 hours per week. I travel regularly to ICANN and IETF meetings and hence expect no problem attending in-person meetings. My home timezone is Canada/Eastern (UTC-4/UTC-5).

I’m deeply interested in research towards a more secure, robust and always available critical Internet infrastructure (including DNS Root Service). I’m currently doing more analysis and research on improving Internet infrastructure within India (e.g. by increasing the number and type (A-K) of mirror root server instances, and deploying them at appropriate locations within India.)

With ever-increasing attacks (e.g. DDoS attacks) on critical Internet infrastructure (e.g. root servers and core routers), coupled with expansion of DNS root zone with introduction of new gTLDS and IDNs, it is imperative that more studies, research and measurements need to be done on these critical Internet infrastructure. In this endeavor, I would like to participate in work of RSSAC (via its Caucus group), RZERC, and SSAC.

I have also joined relevant mailing lists related to DNS, Root Servers and KSK Rollover under IETF and ICANN. I’ve also participated in DNSSEC workshops at various ICANN meetings. I also have a good working knowledge of how DNS/DNSSEC protocols and software (dig/BIND etc.) operate.

Availability
I’m willing to work on RSSAC documents for about 15-20 hours/month. I’m also willing to attend physical and online meetings of RSSAC and RSSAC Caucus.

Formal Roles (if any) and Interests in the Work of RSSAC:

1. Under a cooperative agreement with APNIC, my employer (National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI)) hosts 3 mirror Root Server instances at its IXP nodes: F(Chennai), I(Mumbai) and K(Delhi/Noida). As a core Internet Governance organization in India, NIXI’s mandate and mission is to promote Internet related activities within India. Accordingly, apart from hosting 3 mirror root server instances, NIXI manages
   1. .IN function (India’s ccTLD Registry),
   2. Internet Exchange points across 8 nodes within India, and
   3. Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers (IRINN), the National Internet Registry (NIR) for allocating numbering resources (IPv4/v6 addresses and ASN) within India. IRINN works directly under APNIC, the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for APAC region. As a NIXI employee, I’m involved in many verticals of NIXI operations (including efficient and
      robust operation of critical Internet infrastructure such as root servers).
2. Being from a core technical background, my areas of interest within ICANN are RSSAC and SSAC advisory committees (out of 7 SO/ACs). I’ve also physically attended several ICANN (including RSSAC and SSAC open sessions) and IETF meetings, some of which were on fellowship awards.

Motivation: I’ve worked on a wide variety of Internet technologies for over 20 years, and on DNS specifically for most of the last eight. My primary motivation (in all of my work) is to make the Internet better, for everyone. Having recently joined ISC I’m already tasked with researching improvements to FRoot and I’d like to apply that to the entire Root system.

Relevant qualifications:
I'm interested in the field of DNS and Internet Protocol since 5 years now. I am doing a research work on DNS, DNSSEC and IPv6 as well as regarding the distribution of DNSSEC, signing operations on different servers and making automation with EPP.

I write articles on my blog, and speak at events/meetings around DNS, IPv6 and the Internet Security. Member and contributor of the IETF DNSop and V6Ops working group.

Motivation for membership in the Caucus:
I am interested and I get involved in the community for a better and resilient Internet. Given my involvement in the technical community on issues affecting the DNS and DNS security all this motivates me to participate and contribute to the work of RSSAC Caucus. Moreover get a feedback from African countries with their own network and operational specificities about DNS.

I work on issues related to the DNS, DNSSEC, IPv6 and Internet security system in the AfricaDNSCheck project. This could allow me to contribute the technical discussions with measurement from African countries.

In my previous work experience I worked on researching TCP/UDP IP packet optimization and simulation for bandwidth intensive teleoperation over hi-latency low bandwidth links. I have also supported the rollout of IPv6 on NASA public facing servers.

Motivation for membership in the RSSAC Caucus:
In my new role I will be supporting E-Root and I am interested in ensuring that E-Root is operating within RSSAC recommendations and guidelines. I am also interested in emerging technologies in relation to increasing maintenance efficiency, the security posture and performance of Root Servers while increasing access.

Motivation for membership in the Caucus
I am motivated to join RSSAC caucus in order to contribute towards producing RSSAC documents and other related stuff. Moreover, I want to have a representation of my country (and region) at RSSAC which is currently very much under-represented. I belong to a country of 200 Million citizens, and we already have 4 root server instances running in the country (two L-Servers in Lahore and Islamabad, and one F-Server and one IServer in Karachi, and there is a strong need of contributing in the processes of ICANN from the region, while representing and understanding the local issues as well.

Indication of availability
Coming from academia, I have more luxury to manage my time depending on the tasks at hand. My employer is quite open in letting me go out to attend meetings in person and it is counted as an “official assignment” in accordance with the university policy. Hence, I don’t have any problem in attending the meetings either in person or online. I can pledge to spend at least 10-15 hours per month on the work of RSSAC and the time commitment may be increased depending upon the requirement and urgency of matter at hand.

I am a security expert belonging to academia, but have industrial R&D experience behind me as well. Moreover, I have been working with SSR team of ICANN for more than a year, and also serving as a volunteer trainer for DNS Operations and Security on behalf of ICANN and NSRC for the Middle East region. Moreover, I am an ICANN fellow and coach (mentor) and have already got ICANN fellowship 4 times out of last 5 ICANN meetings. Moreover, I am also serving at the IDN ccTLD of Pakistan as security specialist for DNSSEC and am helping them setting up the ccTLD operations which is currently in the Delegation phase. 

I am quite interested in the work operations of RSSAC and motivated to contribute to the best of
my potential.
