Brief Overview
Purpose: ICANN would like to solicit feedback from the community on the description of five diseases that could affect the health of the name part of the system of unique Internet identifiers.
Current Status: ICANN presented these five diseases at ICANN57.
Next Steps: Once the community provides input on the disease descriptions, the Identifier Technology Health Indicators (ITHI) initiative will move on to define actual metrics to measure those diseases.
Section I: Description and Explanation
Following recommendations of the Security and Stability Advisory Committee in SAC077 [PDF, 139 KB], ICANN is first working on descriptions of health before defining metrics to measure it. This call for public comment is an opportunity for the wider community to provide feedback on both the approach taken and the definitions proposed. In particular, ICANN would like to solicit feedback on five "diseases" that could affect the health of the name part of the system of unique Internet identifiers. The descriptions of these five diseases can be found on slides 10 to 49 of the presentation in Section III, which was presented at ICANN57.
Section II: Background
The Identifier Technology Health Indicators (ITHI) initiative was started at ICANN55 in March 2016. A number of workshops have been held since, resulting in a proposed definition of health that was presented at ICANN57.
