As we approach the second ICANN Public Meeting of 2024, the ICANN Board, community, and organization are focused on working together to achieve our shared goals and fulfilling our mission.

Next week, we will gather online and in Kigali, Rwanda, for the ICANN80 Policy Forum, with the goal of advancing the work of ICANN's multistakeholder community. On Sunday, 9 June, the Government of Rwanda will host a High-Level Government Meeting. Led by ICANN's Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC), the meeting highlights the critical role of governments in advising on key ICANN policies.

Before these events, the Board will hold a workshop on 7–8 June in Kigali to prepare for the meetings and progress its work in key areas.

Next Round: The Board will discuss several matters related to the next round of new generic top-level domain (gTLD) applications. These include the new gTLD evaluation fee and the Applicant Support Program funding plan. Furthermore, the Board will consider the supplemental recommendations and GAC advice related to the private resolution of contention sets, and the next steps on registrar voluntary commitments.

Reviews: The Board Organizational Effectiveness Committee will facilitate a discussion on two pending recommendations from the second Organizational Review of the Nominating Committee (NomCom): NomCom appointments of "Unaffiliated" Board Directors and the rebalancing of the NomCom. Each of these topics have significant governance implications for ICANN. The aim of this discussion is to find suitable channels within the Board to further progress the discussion of these remaining topics.

RDRS: The Board will review the operational usage statistics collected on the Registration Data Request Service (RDRS) since the pilot program launched in November. The program team will present the data, which was shared during a Prep Week session, as well as the results of requestor and registrar surveys that were recently published.

Internet Governance: The Board will receive an update on recent Internet governance developments, including NETMundial+10, the Global Digital Compact, the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event, regional organizations' preparations for the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly, and European legislative trends. The briefing will provide an overview of several forthcoming ICANN engagements at intergovernmental and supranational organizations.

ODP Consultation: The Board will continue its discussion on the effectiveness and functionality of the Operational Design Phase (ODP). We will analyze and discuss the lessons learned and feedback provided by the ICANN Board, community, and organization.

Risk Assessment: The Board Risk Committee will deliver its semiannual report to the Board. The committee and ICANN org's Risk Management team continuously review the risk landscape per the Risk Management Framework.

Strategic Plan: The Board will continue to hone and refine the draft ICANN Strategic Plan for fiscal years 2026–30. During ICANN80, the Board Strategic Planning Committee will share the draft strategies for the next five years with the community. Be sure to join this interactive session on Thursday, 13 June, and help shape the future of ICANN.

In addition to this community engagement session at ICANN80, my Board colleagues and I are looking forward to holding a joint meeting with the GAC, to welcoming the ICANN Fellowship and NextGen@ICANN Program participants, and overall to having productive conversations with community members throughout the week.
