It is with great pleasure that I invite you to read the ICANN Security, Stability, and Resiliency (SSR) Research Team's 2023 Look Back Report where you will be able to learn about our sponsored projects, peer reviews, community engagement, research outcomes, and presentations at the 2023 ICANN DNS Symposium. In this report, my team offers a glimpse into our vision for advancing Internet identifier security. While Domain Name System (DNS) abuse remains a pressing concern, the SSR team's efforts extend beyond this singular focus, encompassing a multifaceted approach to DNS security.

In the realm of Internet infrastructure, ensuring SSR is essential. At the forefront of this mission stands the SSR Research Team within the ICANN Office of the Chief Technology Officer. Composed of a group of dedicated scientists including Dr. Siôn Lloyd, Dr. Carlos Gañán, and myself, the team's focus is pioneering research and development initiatives to strengthen Internet identifier security. Through our efforts, the SSR Research Team embodies ICANN's commitment to safeguarding the Internet's foundational infrastructure.

Our mandate includes three objectives: refining measurement methodologies to assess security vulnerabilities, curating datasets pivotal to DNS security research, and exploring innovative ways to integrate advanced mathematical techniques, such as deep learning and graph machine learning to bolster security metrics. Combining industry insights with academic rigor, our team upholds the principles of reproducibility and peer review, ensuring the integrity and reliability of our findings.

We invite you again to read the ICANN SSR Research Team's 2023 Look Back Report and hope you find it interesting.
