Together with Indonesia's Internet Domain Name Registry (PANDI) and the country's Internet Service Provider Association (APJII), we have successfully completed the first Domain Name System (DNS) Technical Training program in 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia. To build on this success, we will continue collaborating with our local hosts to expand outreach of this three-part technical training series across Indonesia in 2024.

With the goal to build capacity among the Indonesian community on the DNS, DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC), and DNS security threats, we will conduct further outreach in other cities such as Medan and Surabaya. The proposed training sessions will feature more local Indonesian trainers.

The 2023 program included a virtual session on 2 May, and on-site sessions in Jakarta from 6–7 June and 12 December, respectively. A total of 174 highly engaged participants attended these sessions. Participants represented different stakeholder groups, including government agencies, the technical community, DNS industry (registry and registrars), businesses, academia, and end users.

The 2023 program featured ICANN trainers from our Technical Engagement team as well as local Indonesian trainers from PANDI, APJII's Indonesia Network Information Centre, and an Asia Pacific Network Information Centre community trainer. In addition to presentations, the program featured interactive discussions and hands-on training where participants worked on DNSSEC configuration through ICANN's virtual machines.

We look forward to expanding our collaboration to boost DNS technical knowledge across Indonesia!
