I am writing to express support for the proposed Policy Development Process (PDP) (1) on the integration of Latin script diacritics (2), as proposed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

We believe that the development of such a policy would pave the way for a long-awaited solution to our Francophone community and in particular our Franco-Ontarian Association in Canada. This policy could address, among other things, the long-standing need for inclusivity and equality in the digital space. This is particularly the case for the many regions that use diacritics in their geographical names frequently used in French-speaking countries.

Universal acceptance of such a policy would bring, in due course, effective equality where users of the Internet could access and interact on its content in his or her own writing and language.

We believe that this policy could greatly improve the quality of communications as well as the representation and accessibility of francophones on the Internet. We also believe that this is essential to support further our collective contribution, development and wellbeing within our cultural and linguistic identity online.

Thank you for taking our opinion into consideration. We look forward to the results of your initiative and the positive changes that this PDP would bring to francophones around the world.
