ICANN Seeks Input on IDN Tables Review Process Without Reference LGR

1 August 2024

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers organization (ICANN org) is seeking community input on the proposed process to review generic top-level domain (gTLD) Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) Tables for which a Reference Label Generation Rule (LGR) is not available.

Currently there are 26 script-based Reference LGRs published, and ICANN org is able to review IDN Tables in hundreds of languages written in these scripts. However, there are 161 scripts encoded in Unicode standard and many of those scripts do not have Reference LGRs available. Feedback is requested on the proposed process to review gTLD IDN Tables Without Reference LGRs.

The Public Comment period will be open for 42 days. For more information, and to participate in this proceeding, please visit this webpage.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
