ICANN and ISPCP Announce DNS Training Sessions for Internet Service Providers

22 April 2024

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Technical Engagement team, in collaboration with the Internet Service Providers and Connectivity Providers (ISPCP) Constituency, is excited to announce a series of training sessions aimed at both technical and non-technical individuals, focusing on topics related to the Domain Name System (DNS). These sessions are intended for all Internet service providers (ISPs) globally. All sessions will be conducted online at times that suit varying time zones.

The first session, "DNS 101," is scheduled for Monday, 29 April 2024, at 15:00–16:30 Coordinated Universal Time and is designed to be an introductory session, laying the foundation for all subsequent sessions. "DNS 101" will explain how the DNS works and provide an overview of basic DNS concepts, its structure, how it is designed and why, and its most important operational characteristics. Please register today and join a community of ISP participants.

Subsequent training sessions are designed to provide ISPs with a strong technical understanding of DNS operations. They will offer technical training on disparate topics, such as hosting a root zone instance, routing, DNS security threats, and DNS Security Extensions, among others.

Collectively, these DNS training sessions are part of ICANN's continued efforts to fulfill its mission of ensuring a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. The DNS plays an essential role in connecting devices over the Internet, and ISPs are often on the front lines of extending Internet access to users. Both individual and organizational users frequently rely on them to address any connectivity concerns or issues they encounter. Thus, ISPs are critical partners in helping ICANN fulfill its mission. ICANN is grateful to the ISPCP for the partnership and looks forward to working with its team to improve the Internet experience for everyone.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
