(March 6, 2001) The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced today that eighteen (18) additional companies have qualified to be accredited as domain name registrars in the .com, .net and .org domains. They are:
- Alice's Registry, Inc. (United States)
- British Telecommunications plc (BT plc) (United Kingdom)
- DomainPro, Inc. (United States)
- DevelopersNetwork.com, Inc. d/b/a DomainInvestigator.com (Canada)
- Direct Information Pvt. Ltd. d/b/a Directi.com (India)
- Domain Intellect Pty Ltd (Australia)
- eMarkmonitor Inc. d/b/a Markmonitor (United States)
- Intercosmos Media Group, Inc., d/b/a directNIC (United States)
- Internet Plaza City Co., Ltd. (Korea)
- Jiva Online Pty Ltd. (Australia)
- Mobilcom City Line d/b/a topnet AG (Germany)
- Netblue Communications Co., Ltd. (Korea)
- Philippine Registry.Com, Inc. (Philippines)
- R&K, Inc. d/b/a 000Domains (United States)
- Tech Electro Industries, Inc. (United States)
- Triara.com (Mexico)
- Wooho T&C Co., Ltd. (Korea)
- Yellowiz Corp. d/b/a Yellowname.com (Korea)
These new 18 bring the total number of companies that have met the criteria for accreditation as .com, .net and .org registrars to 179. Stability of the Internet and continuity for consumers are protected by the requirement that every business desiring to become a registrar in top-level domains must first become accredited by ICANN.
