Today, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) organization issued a request for proposal (RFP) to identify one or more vendors to provide a secure colocation space, one in Egypt and one in Kenya, for two new ICANN Managed Root Server (IMRS) clusters.
As part of the service provided to the Internet community, ICANN operates one of the 13 root servers of the Internet, the IMRS, also known as L.ROOT-SERVERS.NET. Installing the two clusters will result in increased root server capacity for the African region and improve the resiliency of not only the IMRS, but also the entire Root Server System.
