On behalf of the ICANN organization (org), I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the ICANN79 Community Forum. In-person attendees numbered 1,189, while 558 people participated virtually.

ICANN79 participants represented 108 countries and territories. Here is a regional breakdown of the in-person attendees:

  • Africa – 77 (6 percent)
  • Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands – 127 (11 percent)
  • Europe – 224 (19 percent)
  • Latin America and the Caribbean – 86 (7 percent)
  • North America – 669 (56 percent)

Detailed statistics will be available in the ICANN79 By the Numbers Report, which will be published in the coming weeks.

For six days during ICANN79, members of the ICANN community, Board, and org came together to advance the discussions and policymaking on the most pressing issues facing ICANN. By working together, we can solve problems and deliver a sustainable, interoperable Internet for all.

Internet governance and digital cooperation are the focus of many important discussions that are happening now and in the coming year, including the 20-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20). At a session on 7 March, ICANN org’s Government Engagement team introduced our plan for raising awareness of the importance of maintaining the multistakeholder model of Internet governance and preserving the independent role of the technical community. Please visit the WSIS+20 Outreach Network workspace for more information and to join the email list.

As part of our ongoing effort to support digital inclusivity and promote awareness of the importance of Universal Acceptance (UA), ICANN and the UA Steering Group are planning the second annual UA Day on 28 March. At a session on 6 March, attendees learned about the UA Day events being planned around the world, including the keystone global event in Belgrade, Serbia, and how they can participate.

If you missed these or any other sessions at ICANN79, you can find the session recordings and transcripts on the meeting website.

Thank you once again for fostering another productive and inclusive ICANN Public Meeting, and I look forward to seeing you all again at ICANN80 in June!
